Buffer recently posted an opportunity to join their team as an Operations and Automation Specialist. This role spoke to me, because it sits at the core of the work I already do.
And I love Buffer for many reasons.
So I hit “SUBMIT”
However, I often find shooting my shot unveils helpful information. It felt like a call to share my answers with you all. Whether it’s to learn how to answer these questions on your next job application or just get a bit nosy about me, I hope you find value in this transparency.

In a few sentences, why do you feel you'd be a great fit for this role?
Systems thinking is a part of my every day life. I don't view systems as a way to robotically automate every step of a process. Instead, I integrate systems into life's natural flow to make it more seamless.
What does your personal operating system look like? What tools, workflows, or principles help you manage complexity and prioritize effectively?
My personal operating system is a combination of digital and physical tools. I use Notion to store and reference knowledge and ideas. I organize my various projects and tasks into Asana to keep track of deadlines and manage projects at every stage.
Automation through tools like Make/Zapier bring information and communication from my website, lead generation activities, and client workspaces into my personal workspace.
Even with Asana as my guide, I use physical tools such as literal post-it notes to cut through the noise of a busy day when high priorities are on the table.
My Google Calendar tracks all personal and professional time obligations and CalendarBridge connects my various internal calendars to this master schedule to ensure no overbooking or miscommunicated availability. Cal allows automatic scheduling with none of the back-and-forth email lists of times available.
When all of this culminates in a packed schedule or competing deadlines, I create digital or physical workflow maps to determine critical paths for project progress and absolute priorities.
In detail, please tell us about a project you're especially proud of in the People-Operations space. What made it stand out as a win?
My favorite experience in the People-Operations space to this day was my work with the a team offering small business workshops in coordination with local government.
I was originally brought on to help with digital organization. This quickly led to support in project management. Through my participation in the work and collaboration with the founder, I was able to take an international team of less-than-tech-savvy individuals and enable them to collaborate effectively.
The program grew from three branches (Ohio, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago) to double that and continue to scale even after I trained a successor to take over daily operations.
Please think back to some professional feedback that was especially hard for you to hear or act on. Why was that especially challenging for you, and in what ways were you able to grow from it?
A client once gave me brutally honest feedback that completely altered my view of successful work. We were deep into overhauling their operations and we reached a stalemate in progress.
She said “Anna, you are more than capable of the work we have left. Everything we have done to this point shows me that. These tasks due right now? Many would normally take you 10 minutes to complete. You are so caught up in it being perfect that something that should take you 10 minutes easily turns into an hour.”
At the time, her statement rocked me because I’ve always prided myself in excellent work. This conversation forced a perspective shift. Even the best work has imperfections, but if the product works as intended, it was a success.
You can continue to improve and optimize over time without sacrificing the minimum viable product coming out on the appropriate schedule.
Briefly, what has been your personal journey with content creation and social media?
My journey with content creation and social media has been a rollercoaster ride, that has now settled into a beautiful world tour.
After being casually active on social media as a young adult, I deleted every social media account in the pursuit of peace. I did not use or think about social media for a solid 5 years.
During the pandemic, I became a more active consumer of content on platforms like YouTube and Instagram for learning purposes—recipes, workouts, and skincare videos. When I started my consulting business, many of my clients worked in or adjacent to social media and content creation.
Through that lens I started to learn about the intense research, planning, and production that often goes into content. I became fascinated, and started jotting ideas down in my Notion workspace for shows, videos, and a podcast I would eventually create for real (and didn't know it yet).
In 2024, I explored LinkedIn to connect with colleagues and learn from awesome creators who were sharing resources and advice. I decided in February of 2025 to start sharing the value with this same community.
Since then, I've gone from 600 connections to over 5500 followers on the platform, sharing signature series like PERFECTIONOT Magazine and #FindThemFridays. I produce tutorials and behind-the-scenes content about the technical work I do for clients.
Now, social media and content creation are a core part of my daily work, and I enjoy the way it helps me connect with others.

You can find my detailed CliftonStrengths report here.
Of the many personality assessments I have taken over the years, the CliftonStrengths report is the most insightful. On page 21 of the document "Anna Bullock Strengths Results" that you will find in the above folder, the Strengths by Domain chart was the most interesting. Though Executing is my top domain of strength, I have 9 of my top 10 strengths evenly spread across that, Relationship Building, and Strategic Thinking. As a professional, I often balance these three domains equally.
By nature, I'm an executor. My work ethic and drive lead me to relentless pursuit of both personal and company goals. That was the case when I was running the Arby's drive thru just as much as it is now in my work building online workspace architecture for clients. This desire and ability to understand, arrange, and complete tasks is what always brings me to the operations work within a role.
Relationship building is a passion of mindset hat translates to work in a few ways. First, I have a natural talent to see the unique value others bring to the table. I also connect deeply with peers, mentees, and supervisors. Those strong relationships build trust that allows me to help others develop their skills and confidence to always leave me stronger or better than I found them.
Lastly, I share equal effort and aptitude in the domain of strategic thinking. I am highly creative and optimistic. While being realistic about blockers and resources available, I am able to see situations and find creative ways to solve problems and make things happen. I'm always extremely aware of both past and present while keeping my other eye on the future and where current actions are taking us. In short: strategy is my superpower thanks to foresight and an active imagination.
